My Nose Turns Red offers your child the opportunity to run away and join the circus without leaving home. Learn how to juggle, balance on the rolling globe and learn the basics of creating a clown character. Classes are highly engaging; challenging youth to walk on the wire, balance on the rola bola and build human pyramids, which builds their physical literacy and hand-eye coordination. Students play a wide variety of circus games that build teamwork and cooperation, trust and friendship. Boost your children’s self-confidence and creativity in a safe and non-competitive environment. My Nose Turns Red classes are led by highly experienced, professional circus coaches and experienced assistant coaches. Gym wheel coaches are certified by Internationaler Rhönradturn-Verband.
The 24-week session: two, 12-wk sessions were set to culminate in a fully staged production – 2020 Youth Circus Extravaganza: Adrift: Circus in the H20. The yearly production includes students from all of My Nose Turns Red’s circus programs to celebrate their circus skills and clown work in front of an audience of friends, family, and the community, demonstrating the powerful role circus can play in bringing diverse people together.
Unfortunately, we were unable to stage the production due to the coronavirus and subsequent stay-at-home quarantine. We finished the semester online. We were able to hold an in-person Summer Circus Camp on July 20-31, 2020. Since we could not gather due to COVID-19, we hired former student, Samiya Shamma, to do a showcase video. Here is the promo of the video.
We are offering in-person circus classes this fall. We have three in-person Circus Ensemble classes beginning on Saturday, September 12-December 5, 2020. Circus Ensemble will include unicycle, clown, and object manipulation. This is an intermediate/advanced class.
We are offering a new in-person Beginning Circus Class beginning on Sunday, September 13- December 6, 2020. Parents are encouraged to join their children to help spot unicycling, wire-walking, and rolling globe. Our coach will help train parents to safely spot their child on the equipment. The beginning circus class will include games, clown-theatre, and object manipulation. The 12-week class, 1:30-2:30 PM is open to everyone, no experience required.
New to our Sunday schedule is Open Gym, 3-5 PM. While there are many things we cannot do during the pandemic, we can offer the gym to students who want the opportunity to stretch and condition, as well as time to practice unicycling, hooping, or diabolo indoors. Mats are available for use. There will be a coach available at all times.
Our annual fundraiser and showcase, Circ-A-Thon, will culminate the session on Saturday, December 12, 2020.
All in-person classes will follow COVID-19 policies including wearing a mask at all times, having a temperature check arrival, and practice social distancing.
In addition to our classes at the Evendale Cultural Arts Center, My Nose Turns Red offers after-school circus programs both in-person and online.
Free after-school circus classes (in-person) are offered for Roberts Paidea Academy and Woodford Paideia Academy (online) through funding through the National Endowment for the Arts, Ohio Arts Council, ArtsWave, and SC Ministries. Please contact us for a scholarship for any of our classes if they are eligible for free and/or reduced lunch. My Nose Turns Red believes everyone should have the opportunity to take circus classes.
The Community Learning Center Institute is taking care of Roberts Paideia Academy’s registration. If you are a student at Woodford, please register online.
Have you been sitting watching the screen all day? Well, get ready to move! From 4-5 pm, circus coach Natalie Roenker will lead you through a circus warm-up, balance, games, and circus skills. Each class comes with a Circus Kit that includes a diabolo (Chinese yo-yo), a spinning plate, three hula hoops, and juggling balls, scarves, and triads. You will leave the class refreshed and ready to go! Parents and friends will be impressed with your new physical literacy skills, focus, balance, hand-eye coordination, and body awareness. The class is offered Tuesdays and Fridays!
